For the most part, Sensatia Botanicals has avoided developing products that would require a chemical preservative. For example, their very excellent sandalwood facial masque and coconut & vanilla bean facial scrub are sold in powder form. To have these items available in a convenient, ready-to-use squeeze tube, the trade off would be having to add a chemical preservative because the product would have to contain water. Bacteria cannot survive without water. Leaving the product in a dry form without water eliminates the need for a preservative.

Even without preservatives most of these products have a shelf life of at least two years, based upon lab tests of the raw materials.

Pure essential oils, vitamin E and wheatgerm oil provide antioxidant properties.

Sea salt and pure essential oils provide preservative properties in the few products where it is needed.
